SAINTS AND POETS PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS
OZMA OF OZ
2014 marked the 75th anniversary of the release of the original Wizard of Oz film, and the Saints and Poets Production Company chose the occasion to present Ozma of Oz, Susan Zeder’s stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s third tale of the adventures in Oz series. This modern fantasy explores the relationship between a now teenage Dorothy and her elderly Uncle Henry as they travel to Australia, only to be transported back to Oz during a violent storm. There they encounter a strange clock-man, a wisecracking chicken, some wacky wheeled creatures, a pair of vicious villains, and the kind and powerful Ozma.
“What appealed to me about the story was not only the opportunities it provided for puppetry and for actors to create some big, fantastical characters, but also what it had to say about the way younger people sometimes view older people and how those assumptions and expectations can be reversed in surprising ways,” said Director Kevin Christopher.
Produced at the Main Street Landing Black Box Theater, May 2014.
